Robot Invasion - Run For Your Lives!
With the launch of Gibson’s new Dark Fire guitar no fewer than twenty Robot models have been released to date.

Limited Edition First-Run

The Robot's Powerhead Tuners
Robot is the new, motorized self tuning technology Gibson first debuted December 2007 with the ground breaking Limited Edition First-Run Les Paul. These beautiful instruments with their dramatic Blue Silverburst finish sold out within days of hitting stores. Gibson has maintained top dollar for these unique robotic beasts by limiting production of each style and color. Currently there are nine Les Pauls, seven SGs, an explorer and a Flying V in the line up.

Master Control Knob
Robot technology works by using piezo pickups and electronics in the bridge and tail piece to measure pitch. That signal is sent to the CPU on the back of the headstock. The master control knob (MCK) next to the volume knob selects the tuning and the motorized tuning machines bring the guitar into perfect pitch. There is even a special mode for quickly setting guitar intonation.
The benefits of robot technology are not just an easy to tune instrument but one that sings sweetly, full bodied and full of sustain. The musician benefits by developing much better pitch sensitivity. Plus the MCK gives a player quick access to six alternative tunings, even in the middle of a song.

Data Transmitting Tailpiece
Gibson has just upped the ante with the new Dark Fire Les Paul. The generation 2 robot has smaller, more powerful tuners and an upgraded tuning brain capable of 500 tuning presets. New features include Chameleon Tone Technology with infinite tonal possibilities and a firewire interface/breakout box for computer and studio recording.
Gibson’s motorized self tuners cost a pretty penny on any model that you choose but as the selection continues to expand and the technology becomes more mainstream the ticket price should begin to come down. And once Chinese manufacturers get a hold of the idea… Look Out World!
