This Guitar rocks! Taking its good looks from the shape and lines of the hybrid, electric wannabe older brother T5, the new Taylor T3 and T3B is a real rock and roll electric guitar.

Taylor T3B Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar

A solid slab of wood down the center of the sapele body capped off with a maple top replaces the more dainty and delicate wood bracing. Instead of hidden pickups and body sensors the semi-hollowbody features dual coil humbuckers, borrowed from Taylor’s Solidbody line, accented by polished chrome rings. And there is even a good old fashion coil tapping switch on the volume knob.

Gone is the skinny acoustic fret wire having been supplanted with easy to finger electric guitar size jumbo frets. The new roller bridge compliments the optional Bigsby vibrato tailpiece for smooth tuning stability. And the petite plastic controls from the T5 are replaced with meaty chrome volume and tone knobs positioned under the pickups.

The best features from the T5 have been retained: lusterous lacquer finish, beautiful figured woods, exquisite binding everywhere, single-bolt T-Lock™neck design, and incredible attention to detail.

The most exciting part of the new Taylor T3 electric guitar is the sound. Thanks to the Style 2 HD humbuckers, coil splitter and switching tone circuit, the guitar does everything from hard driving southern rock and clean country to soulful blues and jazz. Sorry, no acoustic emulation here but Taylor already makes about a billion other guitars that do that well.

One note to correct: these are brand new guitars built at the Fender factory. It is unlikely that “the greatest rockers in history” have played this guitar unless they were visiting the plant last year when the axe was being prototyped. Musician’s Friend is probably referring to the Peavey EVH Wolfgangs but the new Wolfgang is nothing like the old Peaveys. Think of it as an evolution in design and technology. Eddie will explain better.

“I am constantly fussing with stuff, tone chasing, closing my eyes and just playing a guitar and the feel of it and this and that. The new EVH Wolfgang Guitar is a culmination of about thirty five years or more.”

“Every thing that I have destroyed, everything that I have stumbled on to is in this guitar. It is everything I know, and have experienced in my journey to where we are now.”

“I have never used or owned any distortion pedal. Nothing. I always used the guitar, cable, straight to the amp.”

“What we did with the new Wolfgang Guitar was… the only similarity and even that has changed a bit… the only thing that is the same is the body shape. That’s it.”

“Every little damn thing, the way the neck bolts on, the frets, the tuning pegs, the binding, the pickups, the tail piece, the pots, even cavities in it to help the wood breath so it ages better. Even the jack, every little thing.”

“The basics of the guitar to the pain staking aesthetics, the binding and everything else, we left no stone unturned. We re-did everything on this guitar. The only similarity to the previous Wolfgang Guitar is the body style.”

“I don’t let anything out unless I’ve dragged it around the block, meaning take it on tour and just beat the living shit out of it.”

“The guitar has stainless steel frets. I don’t know what other people think about them but they just kick ass. No flat spots, they don’t wear out. If anyone thinks it takes away from the tone they are crazy. It has nothing to do with tone. If it’s a bogus guitar it doesn’t matter what kind of frets you put in it.”

“Stainless steel frets was a major break through because for the amount of playing I do and bending I would have to get it refretted every couple of months. These frets, the whole tour.”

“You don’t want to hop out on the track with a wheel bearing that’s going to go bad. I’m doing 275 mph on stage and I don’t want this wheel bearing going out.”

“Starting from scratch alleviated a lot of the problems which gave me the confidence to take it on tour. They were actually very minor tweaks on the road because of all the preparation that we did.”
